Our Story : the adventurer turned collector

Gohi's Horizon is the online gallery curating the private collection of arts and cultural objects amassed over a 50-year adventure of Dato' David Goh.

Inspired by the famous British naturalist, Sir Russell Wallace, Dato' Goh has explored the Malay Archipelago and the Pacific South islands in search of butterflies and insect specimens.  Making friends with the natives from Sumatra to Java to Papua New Guinea and Borneo, he came to know their diverse cultures and religious practices, as well as the creative, artistic skills.  Over the years, Dato' has build up an interesting tribal art collection.

Dato' Goh is the founder of Butterfly Farm in Penang, Malaysia. It is the first butterfly farm showcasing live specimens of tropical butterflies of the world. His 50-year journey in this endeavour has been recorded in his biography in Mandarin and translated to English.

 Collaborating with other entomologist experts worldwide, Dato' has also travelled to Central Asia, China and South America.  In line with his passion, Dato' has collected a treasure trove of sculptures, paintings, calligraphies, coins, semi-precious gemstones and other beautiful art objects.

Nestled in a serene space that resembles a cave with a breathtaking view of the horizon, our gallery immerses visitors in a truly unique experience.
